Technical interviews are stupid

Pissed at myself for spending 7 hours of my Saturday on a "take home test". (Pleased I stopped myself at that point, I could have let it drag into Sunday or worse.) What other profession puts up with this free weekend labor "next steps" bullshit to maybe see if the job is a good fit?

Technical interviews are stupid

There's a part of me that thinks just asking me to do that and not compensating my time disqualifies it is a job I even want. But that's also a part of me that is complicit into why I'm 7 years into the same job and sort of bored and wondering if my career path even has a next step (much less a future).

Some bonus shade: "Please comment on lines you change."

Sent my response as a git "bare" repo. It's 2022. I'm a fucking professional. Source control exists and is nearly ubiquitous. Grow up and use git log, git diff, and git blame like adults. Let me know if you don't know how to git clone and need additional hand holding. 🙄

(I even bothered to over-explain that I batched things into merge commits "like a PR flow" and they can view a higher level breakdown with git log/blame —first-parent.)

I hate this industry sometimes. That's probably burn out talking, but technical interviews do often leave me wondering if the only reason I still think this is my career is sunk cost fallacy. 😬
