Overheard in Dream Show more

Is it weird that I think I think this special finally explained to me why I think Ryan Gosling's acting is so uncanny valley weird? Listen to this native Ottawa accent and of course he struggles so much with that goofy American accent he uses in movies 🤣: youtube.com/watch?v=2fa0sR-I3e

Here we have a K-Pop group dropping a Spanglish single that sounds like they mashed unreleased Pitbull lyrics and Childish Gambino beats. Is this some sort of commentary on cultural appropriation?

Also, is Disney finally admitting Mickey should be public domain?? This thing really is all over the place with presumably (?) unintended subtext.

Street artists are painting this set to talk about Mickey's influence on art, and uh, that's several wrong messages: hey kids, graffiti Mickey everywhere its cool; hey kids, this special cost a ton of money but we still didn't finish all the sets in time

Okay, serenading Mickey and Minnie to celebrate their love with _Color of the Wind_ is dripping with anti-capitalist subtext, or is that just me?

(Hulu talked me into watching this Mickey's 90th Birthday special, and I can't look away. It is corny and ridiculous, and some of these choices make no sense.)

Had a dream this morning that I was invited back to help localize in multiple languages a project I had worked on [an amalgam of them], but wasn't even published in English at the time I was working on it. I was excited to see the localization support I included by habit actually put to use, and the project actually go on sale worldwide. Slightly sad that no such thing exists in the waking world.

Why did past me schedule a dentist appointment on Halloween? I'm not sure if I haunted myself this way today on purpose or not. Spooky. 👻

The 2015 TV in Back to the Future is JVC branded, likely because so too was the 1985 VHS Camera. JVC merged with Kenwood in 2008, so an unlikely TV brand this decade. One of the few brands missing in real 2015, as contrasted to notoriously cursed 2001: A Space Odyssey which had far fewer brands survive. (Sony should do a sci-fi time travel film, because their over use of their own brand would be a fascinating time capsule.)

The rate that my Steam account password is apparently being cracked has me very concerned. 😱 Steam Guard doesn't feel like enough protection.

Speaking of Aesop, the common understanding of the fable of the grasshopper and the ants is bullshit. It's actually a warning to artists that capitalists are evil bastards.

The grasshopper studied his craft and worked hard all year to entertain the ants for free. Come the Winter, they murdered him.

"Oh, playing an instrument isn't hard work", said the ants. The shifty little cunts.

Feel like it's not a great economy indicator when all the office supply stores in an area have gone out of business.

Smeap is the honk of a flamingo. Smeap was also at least once, a storybook land at the weird intersection of TV ads and the worlds they seem to inhabit. It was a place where wars were fought over sodas, and talking polar bears had very good reasons to guard soda machines. It was a place where rainbow color candies were harvested for electric power. It was a place where a prairie dog might move to big city inhabited mostly by Pink Flamingos to follow her dream to be private investigator, only to get slowly entangled in the seedy underbelly of crime and prohibited soda trading of the Neon Flamingos and their syndicate. Social media at times lately feels like it has become almost entirely seedy underbelly with very little upside. Maybe it needs more storybook worlds.
