I have watched Wreck It LeBron: LeBron Breaks the Looney Tunes Internet. It is a film I have watched (many times before)

Schmigadoon

I have to imagine that whatever blackmail Cecily Strong got on Lorne Michaels to get this show made has to be really spicy. I’m almost curious what it must be.

Barry Sonnenfeld directs! I suppose if you were to use blackmail against Lorne Michaels to get the Musical of Your Dreams, this is exactly how you’d spend that money. 😹

Had a group post blocked on Facebook for “keywords” and pretty sure the only “keyword” in that entire post was calling an author a TERF 🙄

I still can’t believe Apple TV+ is attempting a Foundation series, has an amazing cast, and an actual release date. The book series is amazing, and also one of the greatest snooze fests of any possible book series. (It’s about predicting economics! 😹)

This is either going to be the greatest series of sci-fi television or the worst, zero capability for something in between. I can’t wait to find out which.

Sea of Thieves (map nerdery)

Also another thing that dates it, it also resembles the map on the title screen (and vice versa)

There’s also no Devil’s Roar region at all.

Proto-Tribute Peak is not labeled

Given the novel’s description of where to find Tribute Peak as being in the north part of The Wilds is how I particularly clock it as early concept work. (Tribute Peak wound up east of the Wilds and north of Devil’s Roar as finally delivered in the game.)

Studying the map on the map table on The Flying Dutchman (in “The Dark Brethen”) and it seems to be interesting old concept art. First of all the distances between islands are all wrong. But there missing islands and a few rearrange islands. The most obvious difference is The Wilds where Galleon’s Grave and Kraken’s Fall are most clearly missing. Marauder’s Arch is about where Kraken’s Fall Should be. Proto-Tribute Peak dominates the north Wilds.

Corporate DevOps Gothic

Also in general fuck Atlassian for making tools whose cthulian depths of (micro-management, esp.) horrors that make Microsoft’s horrors look like kittens, yet somehow keep selling this shit as if it’s any better.

“And then this link takes from [our SharePoint] to Confluence…”

Why are we putting pages in TWO of these horrors?? We aren’t getting rid of SharePoint, so fuck off with this Confluence bullshit. I hate Confluence. I hate how this keeps happening at companies I work for.

1. SharePoint is too locked down by IT
2. Let’s add Confluence
3. Confluence is now too locked by IT
4. Now we’ve got too terrible micro-managed tools that aren’t useful and aren’t in sync

I was gifted a “solo cup” in aluminum and it fascinates me. About the same weight distribution, maybe even a better one.

It’s more recyclable, but less dishwasher safe and (obviously) much less microwave safe.

From Ball, aka the company we get most of our Mason jars from. (Though despite getting them from Ball many more decades than Mason even existed we still call them Mason jars and not, you know, Ball jars, lol.)

Wikipedia and IMDB both are currently referring to the eleventh movie in the Fast & Furious main line as “Fast Ten Part 2”. (Presumably because one script got chopped in half BTTF Parts 2 and 3 style.) Y’all with me that if these aren’t finally titled “Fast Ten Your Seatbelts” and either “Fast Ten Your Seatbelts Again” or “2 Fast 2 Fast Ten Your Seatbelts” we riot?

COVID Gothic

Corner bar with decades of history has Lease/Sale sign out front. Coming attractions sign on the side of the building still lettered to read “[Bar name] lives / Watch for summer 2020”

Hello from summer 2021, I see you

I had a strong writing day at more than 2 kilowords written. Though none of those words went to a fiction project as apparently I was busy spending all those words on (checks notes) Fast 9 and Tokyo Drift. 😸

Credits still have Stereography Conversion companies listed. I’m almost curious what markets are still buying/playing 3D movies.

(I enjoyed them myself. Kind of miss it.)

Black Widow

An interesting twist on Taskmaster. I think I know some friends who got deep into Agents of SHIELD theory and had big fan canons of how Taskmaster should be in the MCU who might be disappointed, but I found it neat. Though the real test will be if we can get a recurrence of Taskmaster in the future. (Because all the best villains recur. It’s a comic book law.)

This movie is hilarious. Puts the comic back into comic book movie

My first impression of David Harbour was that I thought he was an awful actor. (I didn’t even finish the first season of Stranger Things.) But the more things I see him in the clearer it is that I just really disliked the writing and direction of Stranger Things and he’s a better actor elsewhere.

Aside: I loved Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster: Frankenstein on so many levels (inc. and especially the nerdy title) and think Harbour has been one of the better SNL guests in recent years.
